Four-Five Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten (Elephant Class)

Our four and year-old preschool program helps prepare your children for kindergarten readiness through hands-on exploration and activities. Led by Mrs. Joan Bertermann the four and five year-old classes:

• Teach about Jesus’ love and forgiveness for all people
• Include daily chapels focusing on weekly Bible verses and themes at developmentally appropriate levels
• Prepare children for kindergarten readiness, counting and letter/sound recognition
• Encourage problem-solving and learning through play-based activities
• Promote challenging, hands-on activities and higher level thinking skills
• Contain play-based, exploratory opportunities to learn and grow
• Enhance exploratory writing skills (letters, numbers, names, words)
• Allow time for indoor and outdoor play, games, art projects, musical activities, math and science experiences
• Provide a snack
• Perform Christmas and Ascension Day music programs
• Participate in singing in church once each semester
• Experience two spring Field Trips during second semester in the community

Home Visits
Preschool teachers make home-visits to each child at the beginning of the school year.

Home visits by the preschool teachers is one way Faith Lutheran's Early Childhood Ministry strives to support the parents in the program by bridging the next level of social involvement with a home visit.  The home visit enables the child and parent to meet the teacher on their home turf in a happy non-threatening way.  The teacher is no longer a stranger and the child and parent become more comfortable.

The visit also gives the teacher and parent time to review the folder containing the Parent Handbook, picture permission forms, the snack prayer, school calendar, school supply list, Open House invitation and emergency medical care release form.
