2/19/12—Kid$, Parent$ and Money Matters® Workshop
As we $tart the new year, many people look for ways to learn, grow, and enrich their lives. Jesus Company is pleased to offer a free cla$$ for parent$ and kid$ sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Representative Aldona Reid will present Money Matters, a values based, money management workshop during the last hour of our February 19 meeting. It is geared for kids as young as age 6 along with their parents. Jesus Company families with younger children are welcome to bring them along. Parents gain a better under$tanding of how to reflect on the value$ they want their kids to learn and practical tools to make teaching about money fun. Kids discover three basic money choices: $hare, $ave and $pend and begin to under$tand that money can be used to help others. They will be given a $pecial bank to help them practice what they learn.

Your Choice

When it's "Your Choice" - Memorize any portion of Scripture you want to have on the tip of your tongue.

If you've learned all the bonus verses, consider these suggestions:

  • The 23rd Psalm
  • Review Books of the Bible
  • Review Ten Commandments and start learning Luther’s explanations.
  • Review The Apostles’ Creed and start learning Luther’s explanations.
  • Learn the words to a favorite hymn. Tell me the name and I’ll type out the words for you.

We are very proud of you for taking Memory Work so seriously! You will be glad the rest of your life that you have this buried treasure in your heart!

Service Project

The group called “Orphan Grain Train” is a Lutheran organization managed totally by volunteers.  Goods are received and then donated to those in need.  The organization started over 20 years ago by a group of Lutheran farmers in Nebraska who visited an orphanage in Russia.  They saw the poverty and determined to do something about it.  Their thought process was something like this, “We could help feed the children in this orphanage if we all added some of our extra grain to the cars of a train as it travels across our state.“  And that’s exactly what they did.  Thus, the name “Orphan Grain Train” was born.
It’s no longer just for orphans.  The goods are for anyone in need.
It's no longer just grain. It’s clothing, food, appliances, farm equipment, school supplies.  Anything!
It’s no longer just a train.  Goods are shipped by truck, train, and cargo ship.
It’s no longer just for Russia.  Items are shipped anywhere in response to poverty and disasters.
This mission group accepts donated items of every description and sends them all around the nation and the world where they can help other people.  Every item you need for your life, is something someone else somewhere needs, too.  We will gather some of these items.
