Meeting dates:
Jesus Company will meet 23 times this school year, 20 Sunday evening meetings, a special event at the beginning and two at the end of the season.
Meeting format: How we’ll spend the two hours
We will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a game or activity. About 6:20 the children
will go into the sanctuary for opening devotions and stay for Bell Choir with
Mrs. Grindle. Around 6:50, the children will split into two study/activity
groups for the next hour.
-- Grades 3-4 will meet for a lesson and activity.
-- Grades 5-6 will meet in a separate room for their class.
Everyone will be together again for announcements and closing devotions the last
ten minutes of the evening, with adjournment at 8 p.m.
Study focus: What each pair of grade level groups will learn
Grades 3-4 will be introduced to Luther’s Catechism, with emphasis this year on the Apostles’ Creed, worship and church year. The kids will memorize all the creed. They will participate in activities to reinforce the Biblical truths. A member of the pastoral staff will teach the class from time to time.
Grades 5-6 will focus on key stories from the Bible. Students will search their Bibles for key characters that point to Jesus. Memory work will feature Bible verses that
will be lifetime gems for the learners. These older children will also produce some Bible dramas.
Service project: Living our faith in our community
Both Jesus Company and Sunday School will be finding ways to support the Habitat builds that are sponsored by Thrivent Financial.
Bells, Chimes & Singing: Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
Mrs. Grindle is always ready to rehearse and schedule us into a worship service. This year we’ll use both the large bells and choir chimes. If you can play in church on a given Sunday morning, you’ll sign up in advance so Mrs. Grindle can count
on you..
Devotions: We begin every meeting in God’s Word.
One of the joys of JESUS COMPANY is having the honor to lead opening
devotions. This will happen in the sanctuary immediately after the opening
mixer, activity, or game. Children will be given a copy of “My Devotions” plus a
guide that takes the guesswork out of preparing.
Refreshments: Sure, we work up an appetite!
Volunteer families prepare the snack for both Jesus Company and Confirmation class. Parents on duty will deliver the snack by 6:50 p.m. to the classroom used by grades 3-4. Grades 5-6 and the confirmation class will come to the kitchen about 7 p.m. A healthy snack is fruit, carrot sticks, pretzels, popcorn, fruit drinks or water,
or any reasonably healthy food. We have members with severe peanut allergies,
so avoid all peanut snacks. A snack coordinator will check in with host families
by phone.
Games: Always fun!
We’ll start each evening outside when the weather is agreeable. Our games will be silly or challenging, always designed to serve as an opportunity to make Christian friends in this informal setting.
Mystery prop: There’s a reason for every prop.
One tradition of Jesus Company is our weekly Mystery Prop, something brought from home without an explanation of how we will use it. The prop will be announced both in the bulletin and the midweek Email.
Email reminders: Watch for an Email note every Wednesday or Thursday.
Mrs. Ebeling sends a reminder to each family’s Email address on Wednesdays. Parents, please make a hard copy for your child to read, and be sure to read it yourself. There often is a challenge question hidden in the text, and all students who know the answer on Sunday evening will receive a prize. If you change your Email address or fail to receive a notice, please contact Mrs. Ebeling at
Visitors: Bring a friend.
Bringing friends - one time or every week - is a great way to let them know that you love Jesus, and you want them to know Him, too. “We’re in Jesus Company!”
